OOC: There are probably as many reasons for playing EVE Online as there are players. My love for the stars began when I was very young which easily lead to my love for SciFi in general. If you’ve been a follower of this blog, then you know the inspiration behind my exploration has been based on the works of Carl Sagan and his TV series Cosmos from years ago. I figure exploring in game is the closest that I’ll ever get to exploring the stars in my life time. Can you imagine what our children’s children will be able to do one day?

When I read articles like this one, Earthlike Planet Found, I find myself asking much like Sagan once did, how can there not be life elsewhere in the universe? I wished he could have been alive to see this. I wonder what he would think of the Drake equation now? That within the first 50 or so extraterrestrial planets, we’ve already discovered a possible earthlike planet in the habitable zone. Of course, there’s no way to know if there is indeed life there let alone intelligent life, but to me, to find a candidate world in such a small sample size seems encouraging. In a few years, we may be able to come back to this candidate and use a technique as described in this article on how to determine if there are lights on the dark side of the planet. In other words, Alien City Lights Could Signal E.T. Planets.

Something that I didn’t think possible in my life time, could very well come to pass and that’s successfully finding that we’re not alone in the universe. If that should happen, I wonder what people will think…
At long last, with the enhancements made to my implants, I’ve finally been able to pull this video together and share some of my exploration endeavors with family and friends. I consider my followers friends as well, so I present this to you. Thanks for the encouragement. You keep me going.
OOC: EVE Online’s Crucible release has been… wow. I know folks are excited about a lot of different things that this expansion has brought, but speaking as an explorer the nebula have blown me away, not to mention the new warp tunnel effect. With Dominion and the updated graphics of the planets, I felt New Eden was really starting to look “real”, as in – I was there. Now, the immersion that comes with the new nebula… how can you not enjoy this game for the sheer beauty that it brings. Carl Sagan would be proud.
I’ll let Katia speak now…

When the engineers told me about the updated enhancements that were being made to the perception implants, I had no idea just how much that was going to change my view of the universe. I’m not an engineer and really can’t explain what they’ve done. It has something to do with the limitations of the hardware and software that connects the ship to the human brain. Basically, in an effort to not overload our biological systems, shortcuts were made to reduce the data flow from the “non-essential” aspects of flying a ship in space. In other words, it’s not important to actually see the planets or the background of space around you in order to fly. Instead, the planets and the space around them were reduced to basic representations of what they were. That was the past.
Today, with the technological advances that have been made, we are now able to see space as it was meant to be. You know that I don’t have to tell you when I heard about this, I returned to my home system of Saisio, installed the upgrades and… wow. For you new capsuleers, I thought I would share some images of how things looked to us before. What follows are some pictures that show how space looked like through capsuleer eyes, then after the Dominion upgrade and now after the Crucible upgrade. I’m sure you’re as thrilled as I am with these new enhancements.
These last two weeks have been interesting. I’ve found myself in the middle of an incursion. I saw fleets gathered, preparing for battle as well as those returning, war torn and battered. Different nationalities had come together to face the onslaught and it looked as if they had turned the tide in this particular constellation. Then, in the neighboring constellation, it was as if nothing was a foul with far more pirates having free reign than I’ve ever seen before. It reminded me of just how dangerous New Eden really is. I think I had become a bit too relaxed in my travels. It was a good reminder to keep my guard up.
Another milestone passed this last week… 700+ systems explored.
